State Authorised Public Accountant

At Christensen Kjærulff, education and professional development are a high priority regardless of seniority. Our professional expertise is fundamental to our business. We are passionate about our profession and support a curious and proactive culture that allows us to continually strengthen our shared expertise. As a colleague at Christensen Kjærulff, you will experience strong support in pursuing your ambitions because we take responsibility for both ourselves and each other.

For more than 75 years we have helped educate auditors, and our colleagues represent many different stages of education and experience. As a colleague at CK, you help shape the direction of your own career and educational journey. Some of our colleagues aspire to earn the title of Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

What does it mean to be a Certified Public Accountant?

Unlike the title auditor, Certified Public Accountant is a protected title that can only be obtained by passing the official auditor examination administered by the Danish Business Authority. To become a Certified Public Accountant you must complete an extended educational programme that concludes with both a written and an oral examination.

The title of Certified Public Accountant carries significant responsibility. It also allows you to audit listed companies, state-owned public limited companies and financial institutions.

How do you become a Certified Public Accountant?

The journey toward becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) takes place through the SR Academy, the Danish programme leading to the CPA qualification. Here you will study a range of subject areas designed to prepare you for the two-part auditor examination. The programme has recently been updated to make participation more flexible. For example, you can structure your studies in a way that best suits your career and private life.

To qualify for the auditor examination, certain requirements must be met. You must have completed the cand.merc.aud degree or another relevant higher education programme within economics, accounting or auditing. In addition, you must have one to three years of practical experience from an approved audit firm.

You can read more about the SR programme at the Danish Association of State Authorised Public Accountants (FSR).

Studying for the CPA qualification at CK

At Christensen Kjærulff, we strive to create the best possible conditions for our colleagues, including those studying at the SR Academy. In recent years, we have also worked to further formalise the path toward the CPA qualification to ensure clear expectations on both sides.

During the SR programme, our colleagues have access to guidance from our partner responsible for education, regular career discussions and the opportunity to influence how their time and tasks are planned. We aim to provide an environment where our colleagues experience a balanced workday with room for both professional and private life.
