ESG reporting
With the EU’s new CSRD directive, which came into force in 2024, sustainability reporting has firmly been placed on the agenda in Danish business. At present, only large listed companies are required to present a sustainability report. However, even though SMEs are not subject to legal requirements, it is still relevant to work with sustainability, as many large companies, investors, and public-sector actors increasingly request ESG data. In this context, VSME (Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs) is an obvious option for SMEs that want to begin working with sustainability.
As specialists in SMEs, we encourage all our clients to consider sustainability reporting already now, so they are prepared to report their ESG data to customers and business partners.
How do you get started?
Together with our sustainability auditors and skilled partners, we can assist you throughout the entire process – from the initial analysis to data collection, preparation of the sustainability report itself, and the auditor’s assurance statement.
However, you may not currently need to prepare a report. Therefore, we will initially focus on defining your needs by:
- Establishing an overview of your situation and the requirements in your industry
- Conducting a preliminary analysis
- Developing a plan for future initiatives
VSME – the voluntary standard for SMEs
Legislation in this area is complex and constantly evolving, and although SMEs are currently not legally required to publish a sustainability report, they should still prepare to be able to provide data, as many larger companies, investors, and public-sector actors increasingly request ESG data from their business partners. In this context, VSME (Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs) is a natural option for SMEs that want to begin working with sustainability.
What does your company gain from working with sustainability?
Regardless of your needs, we will help you embed sustainability into your company’s business strategy. We can also help you define your needs, ensuring that you only identify relevant key metrics and avoid building or investing in a reporting tool you do not need.
Sustainability should also be seen as part of a positive development for your business, opening up new opportunities and strengthening your company’s position across several areas.
Reputation
A focus on sustainability will promote the company as a socially responsible business to both customers and employees. The company should not be ruled out simply because it cannot provide data.
Trust
Sustainability reporting builds greater trust in the company, as it creates transparency in the company’s processes related to ESG, similar to financial reporting.
Increased efficiency
Analysing the company’s data can reveal processes that can be made more efficient, as well as new opportunities that can be leveraged.
Risk management
By preparing a sustainability report, your company will be ready to deliver ESG data to your customers and thereby avoid potential customer loss.
